ATHLETIC COACH
Under general supervision, and in compliance with the state and local polices, the Head Coach has the responsibility for the overall operation, management, and leadership of the athletic team. Reports to the school principal and athletic director.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as a role model and leads students in the athletic program by example and in alignment with the core values of Mooresville Graded Schools.
Trains student-athletes in the proper procedures, skills, and techniques in order to help student-athletes safely compete in the sports program.
Encourages and supports the academic achievement of student-athletes and sportsmanship.
Possesses a thorough knowledge of all the Athletic Policies approved by Mooresville Graded Schools Board of Education and is responsible for its implementation by the entire staff of the sports program.
Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff. Design conferences, clinics and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of the overall program.
Assists the Athletic Director in scheduling, providing transportation, and requirements for tournament and special sport events.
Trains and informs staff, and encourages professional growth by encouraging clinic attendance according to local clinic policy.
Provides documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
Safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites. Advise the Athletic Director and recommend policy, method, or procedural changes.
Present at all practices and games. Provides assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant.
Complies with safety protocols established by state and local policy concerning student injuries.
Effectively communicates procedures concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline of an athlete is necessary and contacts parents when a student is suspended, dropped from the roster, or otherwise becomes ineligible.
Promote the sport within the school through recruiting athletes who are not in another sports program. Promote the sport outside the school through news media, community recreation programs, or in any other feasible manner.
Responsible for maintaining good public relations with news media, Booster Club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
Perform other duties as assigned by the school Principal in keeping with Mooresville Graded Board of Education Policy and North Carolina Administrative Code and Statutes.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
As applicable, must meet requirements established by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, the Mooresville Graded Board of Education, and school administration. Teacher license and employment as a teacher by the Mooresville Graded Board of Education is strongly preferred. Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport is preferred.
