Job Title: Group Leader, Lead Teacher, Before & After School Program
Qualifications: Minimum High School Diploma, be at least 18 years old, Child Care Credentials (EDU 119) within 6 months after becoming employed (coursework to be completed within 18 months of enrollment), BSAC.
Reports to: Before & After School Program Site Director
Supervises: Assigned Class
Purpose of Position: To assure the provision of a well-organized, smoothly functioning Before & After School Program in which students can take advantage of quality activities that promote student success
Responsibilities, Duties, & Expectations:
- Assists with program performance and, in the absence of the site director and assistant director, assumes primary responsibility for daily implementation of the program including student registration, record keeping, collection of funds, parent contact, health and safety guidelines, fieldtrip suggestions and supervision, and supervision of staff and students.
- Assists Program Director, Site Director and Assistant Site Director with planning the program in accordance with Board and State Policies and guidelines
- Shares in the responsibility of maintaining constant care and supervision of students and notification of parents and school administrators if medical treatment beyond simple first aid is necessary for a student.
- Arranges for substitutes as necessary in accordance with board procedures
- Assists with the supervision of support staff as assigned
- Maintains daily communications with parents of children assigned to their care regarding injuries, behavior, and other concerns.
- Promotes cooperative relations with school administration and staff
- Implements approved discipline procedures and makes referrals to the program administration
- Maintains written plans and schedules for the program in accordance with local and state guidelines
- Provides recommendations to the director concerning student health and safety issues.
- Keeps daily attendance records for assigned students
- Shares responsibility for ensuring that students are released only to parents or designees
- Suggests and secures community resource people and off-campus activities, subject to approval by the Site Director and Program Director
- Assists with maintenance of first aid kit and follows emergency procedures consistent with the district Crisis Response and Emergency Triage Plan
- Maintains first aid and CPR certification
- Provides recommendations for program improvement
- Maintains confidentiality of program and student records and concerns
- Participates in assigned training and workshops
- Practice and maintain staff-student relationships which foster respect for staff and contribute to the positive self-esteem of the students
- Become conversant with all policies and operations of the Before & After School Program
- Become conversant with all policies and discipline procedures of the Mooresville Graded School District
- Work with other staff in a positive manner in order to accomplish the goals of the Before & After School Program
- Public Relations and Professional Code of Conduct
- Establishes and maintains cooperative and positive relationships with colleagues.
- Works in partnership with parents to strengthen the educational program for all children.
- Communicates positively in public to all stakeholders about school and district educational programming.
- Maintains appropriate and ethical work habits, including regular and punctual attendance, appropriate management of planning time during the workday, and abiding by the rules of the organization as public role models for students and the community.
- Keeps all student records and information confidential in accordance with accepted professional ethics along with state and federal laws.
- Upholds and enforces school board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations at all times in all situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the administration
Evaluation and Measurement of Performance: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of support personnel. Evaluations will be conducted at any point and time during the school year and summer programs.
Terms of Employment: Ten-month year. Work schedule to be established by the Board of Education in conference with Before and After School Program Director’s assessment of needs. Summer Camp employment is additional employment as needed.
