REPORTS TO: 

School Principal, ML Program Coordinator and Assistant Superintendent

 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: 

Bachelor’s degree in Education or Multi-Lingual Learner Instruction or relevant field. Must hold or be willing to earn a NC Educator License in Multi-Language Learner Instruction.

 

GENERAL NATURE OF WORK: 

Under general supervision, provide ML services to students identified as Multi-Lingual Learners in accordance with state and federal regulations. Work involves developing and implementing the ML instructional strategies that are compatible with the student’s age, grade and developmental level. The ML teacher is responsible for developing lesson plans, adapting materials, and designing activities to assist ML students to develop appropriate academic, behavioral, and social skills and meet their ML goals. The teacher is responsible for monitoring student’s progress and for maintaining student records in compliance with state and federal guidelines.

 

When providing social skills instruction on campus, the ML teacher will develop engaging lessons focusing on the individual social skill needs of the student.  The ML Social Skills teacher should work with the regular education teacher to ensure consistent practices.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Will serve as an instructor and ML student case manager, providing student support, and building close learning partnerships with families and teaching team.
  • Follow all Regular Education Teacher Expectations - to include but not limited to:

  • Communication Policies
  • Attend Assigned Staff Meetings
  • Reporting Concerns
  • Develops and implements an instructional plan which is compatible with the school and system-wide curricular goals and the student’s educational needs.
  • Is responsible for the development of ML instructional goals; implements instructional strategies, and uses diagnostic information obtained from formal and informal assessments.
  • Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet student needs. Implementation of these methods may require the adaptation or development of materials for an online environment.
  • Communicates with parents regarding their children’s educational progress and completes required periodic written progress reports.
  • Consults with parents, district-level professionals, and community support professionals to better understand and meet student needs (when appropriate).
  • Maintains student records in accordance with local, state and federal education statutes. 
  • Conduct all meetings by the required dates, ensure all required signatures are collected and paperwork is filed and sent home to parents in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all general education teachers have the necessary paperwork to include but not limited to: updated accommodation lists, behavior plans, medical concerns. 
  • Treats all students in a fair and equitable manner and effectively interacts with all students, co-workers, parents, and community. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools for students to access the curriculum.
  • Requires the ability to collect, interpret and use data to make decisions on student programs or progress.
  • Requires the ability to receive instructions and/or support from program specialists, lead teachers, or superiors regarding the job role and responsibilities.
  • Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
  • Follows a plan for professional development and demonstrates evidence of growth.
  • Attends all required or necessary ML and other school-related meetings.
